Ayama - (South Africa)

Ayama logo

The wine was named "Ayama", a Xhosa word meaning "someone to lean" means. The adventure of Ayama based on friendship and love. The Cape winelands are some of the most breathtakingly beautiful in the world. About 50 km from Cape Town, Paarl is situated beneath a large granite outcrop formed by three rounded domes, the prominent one named Paarl (which means pearl) rock. The summers are long and warm, and rainfall rare. A large variety of grapes are grown in Paarl, of which Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinotage, Shiraz, Chardonnay and Chenin Blanc have the best potential.

A straw appearance with excellent varietal expressions. Very intense aromas, which range from country hay, floral, tropical fruit and apricots to spice. Plenty of ripe fruit flavours. The hints of residual sugar are well balanced by acidity. Intense rounded mouth feel, ripe pear opulence, long finish. Fresh.

The Ayama Pinotage 2013 is valued for its South African expression and local heritage. Ayama likes to produce a medium-bodied and accessible wine with light wood treatment, which reflects her confidence in the grape. Although ripe plums and cherries are prominent, the earthy undertones from its Burgundian heritage show too.

This full red wine’s bouquet suggests ripe berries overlaid with green pepper and spicy flavours. There is excellent follow through onto the palate where the peppery flavours dominate. The well-integrated ripe tannins make for easy accessibility.

This is a supple, elegant and very appealing wine with the tannins well integrated, but prominent enough to need a year or two longer to show off the ripe, fleshy black-cherry, chocolate shadings to their best advantage

A distinctive mocha, dark chocolate and toffee flavour complemented by berry aromas makes this wine truly unique. The wine is medium bodied, soft and easy to drink with an abundance of juicy fruit and velvety and smooth tannins.

Carignan is an expression of dark cherry fruit, blueberries, violet and other floral aromas along with notes of orange peel, black liquorice and cocoa. Well bodied with tannins that have a fine, dusty aspect and fresh and lively acidity with excellent potential for ageing. It’s delicious paired with roast meats, duck and earthy root vegetables.
