Meerendal Wine Estate - (South Africa)

Meerendal Wine Estate logo

The origin of Meerendal dates back to 1702. It is therefore one of the pioneers in the wine field in South Africa. Blessed with one of the best terroirs, it enjoys a Mediterranean climate with welcome relief from the Pacific Ocean and the majestic Boland Mountains. Wade Roger-Lund has been Cellar Master since June 2022 and has steered Meerendal down a new path, with 15 years experience and the coveted winner of the 2017 Diners Club Young Winemaker of the year Award. He takes the domain to (even) a higher level and makes every wine an unmissable pearl for every true wine lover. Today it is one of the absolute top domains in South Africa. Wade's philosophy stems with working deeply with nature in the Vineyards to create elegant and refined wines that epitomise the terroir of Meerendal. With the conversion to Organic Agriculture to be finalised in 2028 Meerendal is also pioneering for the sustainable future of Meerendal. The view from the domain is extraordinarily beautiful! Meerendal is therefore not only limited to wine, but also houses a luxury hotel, State of the art Tasting Room, Chocolatier, 2 top restaurant's and is also fully committed to offering South African artists a stage. In short, if you want to get to know South Africa better, Meerendal is an unavoidable must in your journey of discovery!

Very deep, almost opale purple with a bluish tinge. Spicy red and black fruit aromas supported by strong bramble type characters on the nose. Prune, plum and ripe dark cherry flavours. Big, full well rounded mouth with a satin smooth flow across the palate yet distinct but supple tannin undertone. Beautifully integrated oak.
