Château Montrose - Bordeaux Collection (France)

Château Montrose logo

Montrose was originally part of the huge estate of Calon Segur and no wines were grown on it, but it was a well-known hunting ground. The skippers who sailed the Gironde easily recognized it in spring by the land that was then in bloom and colored the entire hill rose. It was not until the early 1800s that the owner suggested that this was probably one of the best lands in the entire Bordeaux region and effectively turned it into vineyards and took over the name of the sailors: Montrose. Thanks to the perfect location and soil, wines were quickly made that reached the top of Saint-Estèphe. It made Montrose the youngest domain of the famous 1855 classification. They were also one of the first domains to bottle their wines at the Château. A quality standard that would soon be copied by all other Château's. Today, Montrose is in the hands of the wealthy Bouygues family (Telecom and construction). After Thomas Bouygues had tasted the legendary vintage of 1989, he could not believe how good it was and he wanted to buy not only the bottle but the whole domain ... And so it happened! Since 2006, only top people who belonged to the crumb of the Bordeaux winery have been hired, and Montrose is a name that is mentioned in the same breath as the very best Château's from the Médoc.
