Discover more about 'Casa Santiago'

Viña Requinua is a family-owned winery located in the Sagrada Familia area of the Curicó Valley, founded in 1961 by Santiago Achurra-Larraín. At that time, only 50 hectares of vineyards were planted on the Sagrada Familia estate, producing around 400,000 liters of wine in wooden tanks.

Today, the estate has expanded to 1,000 hectares of vineyards spread across the Colchagua, Curicó, and Maule Valleys, with a production capacity of 15 million liters in stainless steel tanks, complemented by a barrel cellar housing 3,700 French and American oak barrels.

The Achurra family continues to work closely with all their clients and collaborators, under the leadership of general manager Santiago Achurra-Hernandez, son of the winery’s founder.

The vineyards of Casa Santiago in the Colchagua Valley

The climate

The Curicó Valley has a pronounced Mediterranean climate with cool, rainy winters and warm summers. Large temperature differences between day and night, caused by cold air currents from the Andes, ensure slow and balanced ripening of the grapes while preserving freshness and aromas.

The terroir

The terroir is highly diverse and consists of various soil types, including alluvial and stony soils. This diversity gives each vineyard its own character and allows for wines with clear structure, finesse, and a strong sense of origin.

Winemaking in the Colchagua Valley

Winemaking in the Colchagua Valley, located in Chile, is a thriving and renowned industry. The valley is known for its ideal climate and soil conditions, which are perfectly suited for grape growing.

Viticulture combines old vineyards, some up to 60 years old, with modern plantings on rootstocks. Classic varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Carménère, Merlot, and Syrah stand alongside carefully selected clones of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Pinot Noir, perfectly adapted to the local terroir.
