Domaine Michel Vattan - France - Grand Sancerre (France)

Our estate is located in Maimbray, in the commune of Sury-en-Vaux, 7 km northwest of Sancerre and 200 km south of Paris. It has existed for three generations. Founded as a family business in 1930, it gradually expanded from 2 hectares of vineyards with farming and livestock to the current 9.10 hectares of vineyards. Originally owned by the Vattan family, it was created by Roger and his wife Andrée, then passed down to their son Michel, and in 2008, it was taken over by Nathalie and Pascal Joulin, who had been working on the estate since 2002. Our daughter Léa joined us three years ago; she is 25 years old.

With controlled yields, this vinification is adapted to the vintage. With barrel aging of 12 to 18 months, the wine is fruity, has good density, and requires a few years of aging. A blend of Oxfordian and Kimmeridgian.

This exceptional cuvée is produced only in the best years, sourced from the estate’s oldest parcels of Kimmeridgian marl, where the terroir fully expresses itself. The vinification and aging, partly in tanks and 30% in clay amphorae, impart a unique structure and a subtle texture to the wine. A longer maturation period allows the wine to develop remarkable complexity, with layered aromas and a refined balance that make every sip a revelation. A true masterpiece for the discerning connoisseur.
