Ardbeg - (Spirits)

Ardbeg logo

Established in 1815, Ardbeg prides itself on being The Ultimate Islay Malt Whisky. And while it is one of the smokiest Islay whiskies, Ardbeg is also renowned for its delicious sweetness, a phenomenon that has affectionately become known as ‘the peaty paradox’. During the 1980s and 1990s, Ardbeg suffered from an uncertain future, and it was not until the brand was purchased by The Glenmorangie Company in 1997 that the Distillery was saved from extinction. Since then, the Distillery has risen like a phoenix and today Ardbeg is a niche, cult malt, with a passionate following. The legacy of the whisky was safeguarded in 2000 by the formation of the Ardbeg Committee, made up of thousands of Ardbeg followers, keen to ensure “the doors of Ardbeg never close again”. Today there are more than 160,000 members in over 130 countries. Ardbeg is loved not only by its fans, but also by the experts, who have made it the world’s most highly awarded smoky single malt whisky. The brand’s numerous accolades include winning World’s Best Single Malt at the World Whiskies Awards twice, the International Whisky Competition Distillery of the Year Award three years running, and the competition’s World Whisky of the Year for Ardbeg Uigeadail.

Inspired by the Mull of Oa, the cliffs shielding Ardbeg from the wild Atlantic, An Oa balances softness with Ardbeg’s smoky intensity. Matured in Pedro Ximénez sherry, virgin charred oak and ex-bourbon casks, the whiskies are married in a bespoke vat, creating a rich, rounded and complex single malt.

Fierce and untamed, Corryvreckan takes its name from a legendary whirlpool located off the coast of northern Islay. This deep, peppery whisky encapsulates the allure of this natural wonder. Ardbeg Corryvreckan is heady and intense – and as powerful as its namesake. It displays the peatiness for which Ardbeg is renowned, with unique dark and chewy flavours and a long finish.

Traigh Bhan (pronounced “Tri van”) refers to the “beach of singing sands” on Islay – beautiful but treacherous, just like this whisky. A matured, complex Ardbeg that still carries that iconic smoky DNA but is enhanced with the elegance of Oloroso sherry casks and almost two decades of cask ageing. Ardbeg Traigh Bhan 19 YO is a whisky of depth, contrast and character. A dram to be savoured and rediscovered again and again. A true Islay great in its prime.

The Ardbeg 25 YO is the epitome of mature power and rare elegance. Despite its age, it is still surprisingly lively. Ardbeg’s trademark sooty, medicinal peat is beautifully integrated here with salty minerality, ripe fruit, spice and a subtle floral finesse. This is an Islay whisky of great depth and exceptional balance – robust, but without any rough edges.
Ardbeg Uigeadail 0.70 l Blanc

The Ardbeg Committee’s favourite whisky, Uigeadail is Gaelic for “a dark, mysterious place.” Named after the distillery’s water source, this whisky is a marriage of sweetness, spice and deep smokiness. The peat-laden waters of Loch Uigeadail provide the smoky tones in this whisky, while maturation in ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks imparts rich, warm flavours – perfect for a dramatic, stormy night.

Ardbeg's youngest whisky yet, Wee Beastie accentuates the raw power of Islay whisky. Intensely smoky, with notes of cracked black pepper, tar and meat, it's not for the faint hearted. For over 200 years, Ardbeg has been made on the remote Scottish isle of Islay. This new single-malt style showcases the daring, experimental side of the distillery. You have to try it to believe it.
