Chateau Fonreaud - ()
Château Fonréaud, nestled in the heart of Listrac-Médoc, proudly bears the Cru Bourgeois Supérieur title. The name, derived from "Font-réaux" or "royal fountain," refers to the legend that King Henry II quenched his thirst here in the 12th century. The estate came into the hands of the Chanfreau family in 1962, who replanted the vineyards and restored the buildings. Today, Léo Chanfreau's children continue this work with the same passion. The vineyards are situated on one of the highest points in the Médoc and rest on well-draining gravelly and limestone soils, ideal for Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, complemented by Petit Verdot. The wines are carefully vinified and aged in French oak, with a subtle use of wood that respects the fruit. The result is elegant and structured wines with aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, and cherry, refined spice, and a beautiful length. In addition to their red cuvée, Fonréaud also produces a special dry white Bordeaux, Le Cygne de Fonréaud, which highlights the rarity and diversity of this estate. Château Fonréaud is therefore a fixture in Listrac, where tradition, finesse, and aging potential converge.
