An interesting nose of spicy citrus with peppery notes of white pepper. Even in the nose, its strong mineral character immediately stands out. Brilliant balance between ripe fruit and exciting energetic properties. This is spectacularly confirmed on the palate with perfectly integrated flavors of citrus, white pepper, jasmine, and North African spices, while riper notes of pineapple and a hint of papaya showcase the more exotic side of Veltliner. Deliciously tight yet ripe finish.
Here, too, the combination with various delicacies from the sea is obvious, especially when presented with an Asian twist. Other Oriental dishes, salads, chicken dishes, soft (goat) cheeses, and of course, asparagus, are more than successful combinations.
- climate
-
The climate is the coolest in California. Moderate sunshine, cool maritime mist, and cooling winds from the ocean strongly influence the Mediterranean character, making Edna Valley a Cold Climate AVA uniquely suited for the production of high-quality white wines.
- soil
-
With its location near the coast and surrounded by ancient volcanic mountains, Edna Valley boasts a highly privileged mineral-rich soil characterized by black humus, clay, oceanic sediments, and volcanic rocks. Specifically for the Veltliner, steep vineyards with plenty of limestone and sandstone were chosen.
- vinification
-
Handpicked in the coolness of the night and morning. Cold, temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel tanks. The wine also matures there for another thick half-year before being bottled.
